The cars with the highest ownership periods in the Russian Federation are named

In the crossover and SUV segment, the average car ownership period in Russia was five years, and the share of cars owned for more than five years reached 39.8%. The longest ownership period in the SUV segment was recorded at UAZ Hunter, which was 7.6 years. The managing director of Avtoteka (Avito project) told Izvestia about this on June 26. Andrey Tumkin.

Also, the top ten crossovers and SUVs that stay with owners the longest include SsangYong Kyron (7.4 years old), Great Wall Hover H5 (7.4 years old), Great Wall Hover H3 (7.4 years old), Suzuki SX4 (7.4 years old), Suzuki Grand Vitara (7.4 years old), Suzuki Jimny (7 years oldOpel Mokka (6.9 years old), Mitsubishi ASX (6.9 years old) and SsangYong Actyon (6.9 years old). The study included cars owned by the first owner for at least one year.

"We see that owners of frame SUVs demonstrate the highest attachment to their cars. These are cars for off—road driving, travel and outdoor activities - they are bought with the expectation of long-term operation. For example, the Hunter UAZ remains with the first owner for more than five years in 63% of cases, and one in three does not part with it even after ten years. SsangYong Kyron (60% and 31%) and Great Wall Hover H5 (66% and 30%) have similar indicators," Tumkin noted.

In the premium segment, car changes are noticeably faster: the first owners part with their cars after an average of 3.7 years. A quarter of premium brand cars (24.8%) remain in the hands of the first owner for more than five years, while only 4% cross the 10-year mark. At the same time, there are models within the premium segment that stand out from the general background.

Thus, the Mercedes-Benz M-Class has become the leader in terms of ownership time: its owners do not change a car for an average of 5.5 years. Also among the leaders are the Porsche Macan S (5.1 years old), Jeep Grand Cherokee, Lexus GX, Mercedes-Benz M-Class AMG, Mercedes-Benz GL-Class and Infiniti QX70 — 5 years each, as well as Volvo XC60, Lexus RX and Porsche Cayenne S (4.9 years each).

Among Chinese cars on the Russian market, the average ownership period is 3.6 years. The share of cars owned for more than five years is 19.6%, and for more than ten years it is 5.9%. The leaders in terms of ownership were Great Wall Safe (7.5 years), Great Wall Hover H3 (7.4 years) and Hover H5 (7.4 years), BYD F3 (7.3 years), Great Wall Wingle (7.2 years), Chery Amulet (A15) (7.1 years), Haima 3 (6.9 years), Geely MK (6.9 years old), Chery Fora (A21) (6.9 years old) and Great Wall Hover (6.8 years old).

As Tumkin noted, in Russia as a whole, the average car ownership period for the first owner is 5.4 years. The share of cars remaining in the hands of one owner for more than five years is 43%, and for more than ten years — 13%.

Five to one: What's happening to the used car market

In May, more than half a million used cars found new owners in Russia.

Earlier, on June 23, it was reported that the most in-demand cars in Russia, which are sold at auction and serve buyers as "donors" to repair their cars, turned out to be Chinese in 2026. Their share was 34.7% of the total. This is followed by German cars, which took a share of 27.8%.
