- Lavrov admitted the possibility of reaching an agreement with the United States on certain issues
Russia and the United States have not yet been able to reach a consensus on a common agenda, but there is a chance to agree on individual issues. This was announced on June 24 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov during his speech at the XII Primakov Readings International Expert Forum.
"I repeat: there is no progress on any issue, including the details of the functioning of our embassies and our property. <...> We are currently unable to agree on a common agenda or global concepts. We can agree on some issues," he said.
In this matter, as the Russian Foreign Minister explained, it is important to act not from the general to the particular, but from the particular to the general and work on those issues that can be resolved.
At the same time, as he clarified, the work of Moscow and Washington has always been conducted with mutual respect. As Lavrov stressed, the American side's plans were not hidden from the Russian side. The participants of the interstate dialogue, as he noted, always listened to each other and stated their own position.
The day before, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov pointed out the lack of dialogue between Moscow and Washington. Its resumption requires changes in the position of the American side, which, being a nuclear power, behaves destructively and dangerously.
At the same time, Lavrov announced the removal of the White House from its mediation role in Ukraine. He clarified that the current US administration follows the same course of increasing sanctions pressure as Europe.
