- The Interior Ministry warned about the "romantic" schemes of scammers on the Internet
Romantic schemes remain one of the most effective tools of scammers. On June 24, the Department for the Organization of the fight against the illegal use of information and communication technologies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation warned about this.
"Romantic schemes remain one of the most effective tools of fraudsters. Loneliness and the need for emotional support reduce vigilance, and the victim begins to trust a person whom he has never seen in person," the Telegram channel says.
As an example, the Interior Ministry cited a 19-year-old resident of the Omsk region, who met a girl in a messenger. After two days of communication, the interlocutor sent a link allegedly to the website of Public Services, where a warning appeared about the transfer of his data to a resident of Ukraine. Then he was contacted by tech support, and then by a pseudo-law enforcement officer, who intimidated him and asked him to complete several tasks. One of them was the transfer of documents.
Arriving at the specified address, the young man took a package with 470 thousand rubles, after which he was detained by the police. The Interior Ministry added that shame and fear of deception often prevent victims from seeking help in time, and urged them not to trust strangers on the Internet and check information through official sources.
On June 12, the head of the city's online project "Call me Back" at the Moscow Department of Information Technology, Valentina Shilina, warned that one should not try to replay telephone scammers, since voice recording can be used in the future to confirm banking transactions or to deceive loved ones.
