On the Cathedral Square of the Main Church of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in the Moscow region, an action "Candle of Memory" was held, dedicated to the Day of Remembrance and Mourning in honor of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War (WWII). This was announced by the Russian Defense Ministry on June 22.

"More than 300 military personnel of the Moscow territorial garrison lined up with candles in the form of the number "1418", symbolizing the number of days of the Great Patriotic War," the department wrote in the Maks messenger.

The military also set candles along the Memorial Road museum complex near capsules with earth brought from burial sites and mass graves of Soviet soldiers.

Throughout the day on Monday, June 22, on the territory of the Patriot Park Museum and temple complex, visitors will be able to join the action and light their candles in memory of the victims. On this day, a number of events dedicated to the anniversary of the outbreak of the war are planned in the complex.

On the same day, a requiem rally dedicated to the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow was held in the Brest Fortress. At 4:15 a.m., the participants gathered on the territory of the fortress — it was at this time on June 22, 1941, that the first explosions sounded here and the attack of Nazi Germany on the Soviet Union began.
