Maxim Tretyak, the former goalkeeper of the Sochi hockey club, announced on June 21 the end of his sports career.

"Everything comes to an end... Hockey, I love you! Thank you for everything — you are forever in my heart!" he wrote on the Instagram social network (owned by Meta, recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).

During his playing career, the 29-year-old goalkeeper represented the Sochi Hockey club, Dinamo Riga, CSKA Moscow and Admiral Vladivostok. In 2016, as a member of the Russian youth national team, he won silver medals at the World Championships. Maxim Tretyak is the grandson of three-time Olympic champion and current president of the Russian Hockey Federation (RIHF) Vladislav Tretyak.

The Sochi press service announced the goalkeeper's departure on June 1. The goalkeeper joined the Black Sea team in October 2025, having transferred from Tolyatti Lada. During his time with the Leopards, the goalkeeper participated in 108 meetings during the regular season of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL).
