Vance announced the intention of the United States and Iran to discuss the nuclear program and Lebanon

Tehran's nuclear program and the cease-fire in Lebanon will be the main topics of talks between the United States and Iran in Switzerland. This was announced on June 20 by American Vice President J. D. Vance.

"I hope we will be able to make progress on the nuclear issue and on the ceasefire in Lebanon. These are two key topics that we will focus on," he told reporters at the Andrews military base near Washington before departing for the meeting.

Vance clarified that the consultations could last several days. According to him, the parties will need time to launch a full-fledged negotiation process.

"We will have a couple of days for negotiations to try to start this process properly. I will be able to be there for one or two days," the vice president added.

The escalation in the south of the country has called into question Washington's barely reached agreements with Tehran.

The US-Iranian memorandum on cessation of hostilities was signed on June 17. Two days later, the American president expressed the hope that a final settlement would take place within the next 60 days, otherwise his army would resume bombing the Islamic Republic.

On June 20, The Washington Post pointed to possible attempts by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to disrupt the deal. Meanwhile, Al Jazeera TV channel, citing the Lebanese Ministry of Health, said that at least 47 people were killed in strikes by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in southern Lebanon. After that, Iran again announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Bagai said on June 20 that Tehran would take retaliatory measures if Washington refused to fulfill its obligations under the previously signed memorandum. On the same day, the Iranian Foreign Ministry demanded that the United States urgently take action against Israel. Advisor to the Supreme leader of Iran, Mohammad Mohber, on the same day announced the possible suspension of energy flows in the Middle East if the United States does not comply with the terms of the memorandum of understanding.
