- The premiere of the action film "The Karate Kid" was held in Sochi to a full house
On June 18, the audience of the III Eurasia-Kinofest International Film Festival was the first to see the family action film about martial arts "The Karate Kid" at the Frunze Park Summer Theater in Sochi. The festival, organized by ANO Eurasia, takes place in the resort city from June 13 to 19. Before the premiere, the guests were shown a special show program with the participation of the film's stuntmen. Roman Kurtsyn, Magomed Ismailov, Polina Maksimova and Alina Sokolova spoke in more detail about the film and the filming process at a press conference that took place on the same day. The film will be released on June 25th!
"If you are waiting for some incredible action movie today, it will definitely be there, but I have no doubt that you will leave this hall with tears in your eyes. I am sure that after watching this movie, your children will play sports," said Roman Kurtsyn, the performer of one of the main roles and producer of the film.
"This is the first children's action film in the history of Russian distribution, so you and I will witness the birth of a new genre that will motivate us, you, children and future generations to play sports, defend our truth to the end, and be true to our word and deed," said actress Polina Maksimova.
"This is my debut, so I'm worried. I hope I can meet your expectations, and you will appreciate our movie," said the famous MMA fighter Magomed Ismailov.
In addition to Kurtsyn, Ismailov and Maximova, the film is co-produced by Berg Sound Film company, KURTSYN PROJECT and NMG Film Distribution company (part of the National Media Group holding) played by Miron Provorov ("Bremen Town Musicians"), Kirill Pletnev ("Admiral") and Alina Sokolova. The film also involves more than 70 karate children, acrobats, stuntmen and dancers representing the organizations "Cobra Throw", "Yar Film" and "Hannah".
Bright locations, dynamic combat scenes and the competitive spirit of the film complement the important issues for teenagers – overcoming fears, bullying, building relationships with adults and peers.
The plot centers on the story of twelve-year-old Sasha, who has to leave Moscow for Pyatigorsk to live with his aunt while his parents, doctors, are on a business trip to Africa. The boy will face new challenges in his life: school bullying, ridicule and conflict with the local leader Marat. When Sasha finds out that his parents disappeared during the flood, a turning point comes in his life. To overcome fear and despair, the main character finds a new hobby – the karate section, where strict sensei Dmitry and his daughter Masha help him gain new strength and overcome life's difficulties.
Filming took place in Pyatigorsk, Kislovodsk and Mineralnye Vody – thanks to these locations, the project has acquired a special scale. The unique architecture and picturesque landscapes create a unique atmosphere of the film and set a special flavor. A Japanese dojo, a traditional martial arts training hall, was built specifically for the project at the viewpoint.
