Washington will provide assistance to New Delhi in case India is attacked. This was announced on June 17 by US President Donald Trump during a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the G7 summit.

"I think we have a great relationship. <...> If only for them (India. They attacked, we would have come to their aid," he said during a broadcast hosted by Fox News on the YouTube channel.

The head of the White House explained that the assistance of the American side will be provided to the Indian side if it is headed by Modi. Trump said he did not know if his promise would be relevant if another person replaced the current Indian prime minister.

On February 2, Trump announced that the United States and India had concluded a favorable trade deal. The document, according to which US tariffs for New Delhi were lowered from 25% to 18%, was agreed "out of friendship and respect for Washington for Modi."
