Lithuania, threatening the Kaliningrad region, intends to persuade the entire European Union (EU) to participate in a military adventure. This was announced on June 15 by Nikolai Patrushev, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, Chairman of the Russian Maritime Board.

"Lithuanian politicians want to encourage the whole of Europe to take this gamble. But they can't help but understand that in the event of aggression, first of all, the peaceful carefree life of Lithuania and its sovereignty will come to an end. And still Vilnius is getting into trouble," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

Patrushev commented accordingly on the proposal of the Foreign Minister of the Baltic republic, Kestutis Budris, to illustrate to Moscow the alleged ability of the North Atlantic Alliance to overcome the protection of the Kaliningrad region. Speaking about this on May 18, Budris pointed out that the EU allegedly had the means that could potentially be used against the infrastructure of the Russian Federation in the region.

American intelligence officer Scott Ritter said on June 9 that Vilnius, which threatens the Kaliningrad region, does not have the weapons he is talking about. He suggested that the Lithuanian side, making such statements, can count on the help of the United States, which also lacks equipment of this level.

Putin, in turn, on May 29, against the background of Budris' statements, announced that the Russian Federation had all the means to level those who would try to attack Russian air defense bases.
