Canoeist Korovashkov won silver at the European Rowing Championships
Russian canoeist Alexey Korovashkov became the silver medalist of the European Rowing and Canoeing Championships, which takes place in Portugal. On June 14, the athlete took second place in the single canoe competition at a distance of 500 m.
Korovashkov covered the distance in 1 minute 46.142 seconds, losing 0.775 seconds to the winner. Martin Fuchs of the Czech Republic became the European champion with a score of 1 minute 45.367 seconds. The bronze medal was won by Greek Stefanos Dimopoulos, who clocked 1 minute 46.967 seconds.
In 2024, Korovashkov won gold at the World Championships in the mixed two-man canoe competition at a distance of 500 m. The Russian athlete is a six-time world champion and a bronze medalist at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
On April 26, the International Canoe Federation (ICF) announced that 10 Russian rowers had received neutral status. Currently, more than 500 athletes from Russia and Belarus have neutral status. In April 2023, the ICF Board decided to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete as individual neutral athletes.
