Polish Defense Minister reminded Budanov about the inadmissibility of glorification of the Nazis

Polish Defense Minister Vladislav Kosinyak-Kamysh met with the head of the office of the Ukrainian President Kirill Budanov (listed in the Russian Federation as a terrorist and extremist) and reminded him of the inadmissibility of glorifying members of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA, an organization recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation). He announced this on June 6 in his network on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

"I have clearly stated Poland's expectations regarding the decision to name one of the military units after the UPA. The memory of the victims in Volhynia is not subject to discussion. There are borders that cannot be crossed," the Defense Minister stressed.

Kosinyak-Kamysh noted that Poland and Ukraine remain partners in security issues, but in historical topics it is necessary to openly discuss facts in order to build the future.

Revision of solidarity: Warsaw tightens rules for Ukrainians

The tension between Kiev and Warsaw is unlikely to turn into an open confrontation, but it is becoming more noticeable.

Budanov arrived in Poland the day before to discuss with representatives of the Polish government the decision to assign a unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine named after Ukrainian nationalists.

The fact that a scandal broke out between Poland and Ukraine was reported by The Telegraph newspaper on June 1. It was noted that Warsaw was outraged by the decree of the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, to assign an honorary name to one of the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in honor of the UPA.

Marcin Przydacz, head of the Bureau for International Policy at the Polish presidential administration, advised the Ukrainian leader to apologize for the appropriate act. At the same time, the authorities of the city of Lublin in eastern Poland ordered the removal of the flag of Ukraine from the city hall. Polish Vice Speaker Krzysztof Bosak, commenting on what is happening, pointed to the unwillingness of the republic's administration to see Zelensky in his country.
