The Turkish Prosecutor General's Office has launched an investigation into businessman Rahmi Koch, whose words at the opening ceremony of a hospital in Izmir were regarded as a public humiliation. This was reported on June 6 by the supervisory authority.

"An investigation has been launched into the statements made by the businessman under Article 216 of the Turkish Criminal Code ("Public humiliation of a part of the population based on social affiliation, race, religion, denomination, gender or regional differences")," the Izmir Prosecutor General's Office said in a statement posted on the social network X (former. Twitter).

According to the Haberler portal, we are talking about the honorary chairman of Koç Holding, Mustafa Rahmi Koch, whose fortune exceeds two billion dollars. During the opening of a hospital in Balcova district, he told a joke about a Kurdish woman, touching on her gender, ethnicity and medical confidentiality.

A fragment of the speech caused a wide public outcry and discussion on social networks. After that, Koch apologized, stressing that he had no intention of offending anyone.

On January 16, the President of the Syrian Arab Republic (SAR), Ahmed al-Sharaa, signed a decree implying the inviolability of the private lives of representatives of the Kurdish people living in his country. With a corresponding gesture, the Syrian leader called on this ethnic group to jointly build the future of the nation.
