In fact, the effect depends on the condition of the teeth and soft tissues, as well as on the loss of bone support after prolonged absence of teeth. Igor Kuzmin, a dentist, implantologist, associate professor, Candidate of medical Sciences, and expert of the Alpha - Bio Tec brand, told Izvestia on June 8.

According to the expert, the face is formed on the basis of bone structure, muscles and soft tissues. If the tooth is removed and not replaced on time, the bone gradually loses volume, which visually strengthens the nasolabial folds and makes the oval of the face less clear.

"The most pronounced changes usually occur in patients with prolonged tooth loss and bone atrophy. In such cases, implants and prosthetics help to restore the height of the bite, return the chewing load and partially support the soft tissues," Kuzmin explained.

The effect of implants is especially evident in the following situations: restoring the height of the lower third of the face, supporting the canine region, and improving the contours of the lower jaw with pronounced adentia. However, if the tooth was recently removed and the bone is still preserved, there may be no visual difference, and implantation primarily solves functional problems.

The specialist noted that sometimes visual changes are associated with a decrease in muscle tension after pain relief: the face looks calmer, but this is not always due to a change in tissue volume.

"Implants and prosthetics are primarily a way to restore function, chew, and prevent further bone loss. The cosmetic effect may be a pleasant addition, but it is not a guaranteed result," the doctor added.

It is important for patients to understand that the actual changes depend on the initial condition of the teeth, the amount of atrophy and the clinical picture. Often, a visually "thinner" face is not associated with weight loss, but with the restoration of soft tissues and bite correction.
