The return of extreme thinness can lead to severe hormonal, metabolic, and psychological disorders, especially in young women. All the details are in the Izvestia article.

Effects on the body

Chronic calorie and body weight deficiency causes serious disruptions in the reproductive system. Anna Ukrainskaya, an endocrinologist and nutritionist at Olympus Clinic MARS, notes that in young women this leads to the development of functional hypothalamic amenorrhea and infertility due to suppression of hormone secretion. A low body mass index is also directly related to a decrease in bone density, which disrupts bone accumulation in adolescence and increases the risk of osteoporosis in the future.

In addition to hormonal problems, strict diets negatively affect the cardiovascular system and metabolism. These patients have a decrease in blood pressure, pulse rate, and basal metabolic rate. Even short-term fasting significantly reduces insulin sensitivity, which creates additional risks for carbohydrate metabolism in the long term.

Psychological aspects

The pursuit of beauty ideals is often accompanied by the development of eating disorders and dysmorphic phobia. Psychologist Natalia Rudakova explains that social media enhances the distorted perception of appearance, broadcasting retouched images as the norm. For people with a genetic predisposition or perfectionism, fashion becomes a catalyst that activates hidden psychological vulnerabilities.

"The difference between a healthy desire to get fit and the onset of a disorder is freedom. A healthy attitude implies flexibility and enjoyment of food and movement. RPP is based on total control, guilt and fear," said Rudakova.

The appearance of extreme thinness also undergoes changes that are difficult to call aesthetic. Protein and energy deficiency leads to hair loss, dry skin and brittle nails. In some cases, the body adapts to a lack of energy and cold by the appearance of fluffy lanugo hair. Ukrainian emphasizes that such manifestations indicate clinical exhaustion of the body, and not about healthy slimness.

"Outwardly, this is often manifested not by "instagram" slimness, but by clinical signs of exhaustion. Alertness should be caused by cycle disorders, pronounced weight deficiency and changes in laboratory parameters. If they are available, early multidisciplinary assistance is needed," the Ukrainian stressed.

Methods of dealing with the problem

As noted by Rudakova, in order to neutralize the negative impact of trends, it is recommended to pay attention to psychological stability. Digital hygiene is becoming an important tool for protection, which helps to reduce media pressure and block imposed ideals. This helps prevent the activation of hidden vulnerabilities associated with perfectionism and the desire for total weight control. If signs of clinical exhaustion or cycle disorders appear, timely medical treatment is necessary to correct laboratory parameters.
