A Tomsk resident was sentenced to five years in prison for posting comments on Telegram publicly justifying terrorism. This was reported on May 28 in the press service of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation for the region.

"The defendant was found guilty of committing a crime under Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (public calls for terrorist activities, public justification of terrorism or propaganda of terrorism). He was sentenced to five years in prison to be served in a general regime colony," the ministry said in a statement, quoted by TASS.

It is specified that the person involved in the case was a local resident born in 1988. The investigation found that the convict had posted messages in the messenger in which he justified terrorist acts on Russian transport infrastructure facilities.

In addition to the prison term, the court banned the man for two years from engaging in activities related to the administration of websites, forums and chats, as well as the public posting of any materials on the Internet and messengers.

On April 29, law enforcement officers in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) detained a resident of the Volodarsky district, who was suspected of publicly justifying terrorism. According to investigators, the man in the Telegram messenger repeatedly wrote comments in which he justified the terrorist attack of the Ukrainian special services committed in April last year.
