Flood destroyed a unique 17-arch bridge in Dagestan
In the village of Kasumkent in the Suleiman-Stalsky district of Dagestan, a partial collapse of the bridge spans over the Chiragchai River occurred. This was announced on May 28 by the State Traffic Inspectorate (GAI) of the republic in its Telegram channel.
The agency published footage from the scene, which shows the damage to the 17-arched structure. According to the traffic police, the cause of the incident was prolonged heavy rains for several days. Heavy rainfall led to a sharp rise in the water level in the Chiragchai River, which washed away the structures of the facility. Due to the incident, traffic on this section is restricted. A detour scheme has been prepared for motorists.
"A bypass has been organized for the movement of vehicles along the bridge located on 16 km of the Mamrash —Tashkapur —Arakan Bridge highway," the republican State Traffic Inspectorate clarified.
The bridge over the Chiragchai River was built in 1929, its length is 250 m, it connects parts of the district center and neighboring districts. The building is not only a transport artery, but also an architectural monument of Dagestan, adds "Газета.Ru ".
On April 19, the State Traffic Inspectorate of Dagestan reported that part of the bypass road from Makhachkala through the village of Talgi had collapsed, and traffic was closed. It was noted that work had begun to eliminate the collapses. Traffic will be reopened after repairs.
The powerful flood that hit Dagestan has created many problems in the region. On April 14, the State Traffic Inspectorate announced that employees from Dagestan were working in an enhanced mode. The main forces are focused on ensuring safety on the restored highways and assistance to citizens.
