Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin and the head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Alexander Kurenkov, agreed on joint measures to improve safety at the water facilities of the capital. This is reported by the portal mos.ru .

It is expected that the signed agreement will strengthen control over the movement of small vessels and create favorable conditions for the implementation of projects for the development of water transport in the waters of the Moskva River and the Khimki reservoir.

"Today, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations and the Moscow government signed an agreement on the transfer of part of the powers to carry out federal state supervision of small vessels and federal state control over the safety of people on water bodies. I am confident that our joint work within the framework of the agreement will significantly reduce the risks of accidents, as well as minimize the number of human casualties in Moscow's reservoirs," said Kurenkov.

In 2025, passenger traffic on regular, pleasure and cruise routes reached 4.5 million people. This is an absolute record in the 30-year history of passenger traffic on the Moskva River, the report says. According to Sobyanin, over the past four years, the total number of small vessels registered in the capital has increased 2.6 times, to 4 thousand.

"During the navigation season, the Moskva River and the Khimki reservoir are gradually becoming crowded. This requires the use of state-of-the-art approaches and IT solutions to monitor the movement of water transport and comply with safety regulations on the river, and the Moscow government has accumulated extensive experience in this area," said the mayor. He expressed confidence that the Moscow River would become even safer through joint efforts.
