WP pointed to Israel's growing dependence on the United States
The military escalation in the Middle East and the expansion of operations against Iran, Lebanon and the Gaza Strip have increased Israel's dependence on military and political support from the United States, Max Booth, a columnist for The Washington Post, wrote on May 25.
"Israel is not capable of fighting and winning wars on its own, but no one sees this because they don't know the whole other side," the article says.
According to the newspaper, the strategy of forceful pressure has led to an overload of the Israeli army and an increase in international criticism. According to the Gallup consulting company, for the first time in history, U.S. residents are more sympathetic to the Palestinians than to Israel.
A Pew Research Center study found that 60% of Americans have a negative view of Israel, compared to 42% in 2022.
On May 20, Axios journalist Barak Ravid reported that American leader Donald Trump had a "long and difficult" telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. It was clarified that the parties could not agree on further steps.
At the same time, Netanyahu said on May 6 that Israel was coordinating all its actions with the US command and was in constant contact with it. He stressed that there are "no surprises" between the United States and Israel and the countries pursue common goals.
