The Russian ambassador stated that there are no prospects for restoring relations with New Zealand.

Relations between Russia and New Zealand are now "virtually reset" and there is no prospect of their restoration at this stage. This was announced on May 25 by Russian Ambassador to Wellington Stanislav Krans.

"It may take a year, ten years or a century for them to recover. But at this stage, the prospect of restoring normal relations with New Zealand is not visible," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

He noted that the "reset" was due to the short-sighted strategy of the island state. According to him, this trend began in 2014, and since 2022, contacts between the Russian Federation and New Zealand have virtually been reduced to zero.

In addition, Kranz noted that there is no point of no return in interstate relations.
