The authorities of the Luhansk People's Republic (LNR) have published a list of those killed after a strike by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on a college in Starobilsk. According to the latest data, 21 people became victims of the incident.
"As a result of the strike, 21 people were killed," the LNR government said in a statement on the Maks channel.
The regional authorities also expressed their condolences to the families and friends of the victims. In the LPR, May 24 and 25 were declared days of mourning as a result of the attack. The head of the LPR, Leonid Pasechnik, expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and noted the solidarity of the citizens of the republic.
On May 22, the Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked the academic building and the dormitory of the Starobilsk College. A criminal case was opened into the attack under Part 3 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Terrorist act"). Rescuers dismantled the wreckage manually.
Russian President Vladimir Putin called a terrorist attack on a college dormitory. He also noted that the attack was not related to the military infrastructure, as there is none in the area. On May 23, residents of Starobilsk laid flowers and toys at a spontaneous memorial organized in memory of those killed after the Ukrainian Armed Forces struck a dormitory and college.
