In the Urals, a one-year-old boy died after falling from a window
In Kopeisk in the Chelyabinsk region, a one-year-old child died after falling out of a second-floor window. This was announced on May 21 by the press service of the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the region.
According to the investigation, on May 19, the boy climbed onto the sofa, then climbed onto the windowsill and leaned on the mosquito net. The structure could not support the weight, as a result of which the child fell out of the window of the second floor. At the time of the incident, the victim's mother was in another room.
"After the incident, the boy was hospitalized in a medical facility, where he died from his injuries," the agency said in a statement on the VKontakte social network.
A criminal case has been opened on the grounds of a crime under Part 1 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (causing death by negligence). The investigation will provide a legal assessment of the living conditions and upbringing of minors in the family. In addition, the investigation will check the work of the organs of the prevention system.
On May 20, the Commissioner for Children's Rights in the Moscow Region, Ksenia Mishonova, reported that since the beginning of 2026, 10 children have been injured when falling from windows in the region. She urged adults to install blockers and locks on windows, and to open windows only in the ventilation mode. She also added that sofas, chairs and stools should be removed from window sills.
