In St. Petersburg, about 70 hectares of land are planned to be cleared of hogweed in 2026. Kolpinsky, Krasnoselsky, Nevsky and Krasnogvardeysky districts suffer the most from this poisonous weed.

As he writes 78.ru the hogweed began to actively grow with the onset of heat. Specialists of the city improvement committee, receiving applications from local residents, go to the places where the plant spreads and decide exactly how they will deal with it.

This spring, the most infected area is Polezhaevsky Park. Employees of the Krasnoselskoye horticultural enterprise have been trying various methods of combating hogweed for many years. In particular, they planted the territory with lupines and daisies, and removed the topsoil.

Experts are currently studying the area along the Dudergofsky Canal. There, the hogweed has not yet reached a dangerous stage, mass mowing is not required, so the weed is dug out manually.

The agency writes that mowing and weeding are still the main methods of combating this plant. Herbicides are used in rare cases.

This year, work to eliminate hogweed will be carried out at 423 sites on an area of almost 68.5 hectares, including repeated excavation and mowing.

Earlier it was reported that in St. Petersburg, the Gorodovoy complexes will be re-activated to combat hogweed. The equipment is able to recognize a dangerous plant at all stages of its growth and quickly find violations.
