Russians have been warned about the dangers of humidifiers in hot weather
With the onset of the warm season, many people begin to use humidifiers more often, hoping to make the microclimate in the house more comfortable. However, in summer, improper operation of the appliance can lead to stuffiness, condensation, dampness, and mold. Irina Babayants, product manager of the Tuvio brand, told Izvestia about frequent mistakes on May 23.
According to her, the main mistake is to turn on the humidifier without humidity control. In summer, it is often already elevated indoors, especially in rainy weather or in humid climates. If the indicator exceeds 60-70%, the air becomes heavy, and conditions for the development of mold and bacteria are created in the room. The optimal humidity level is 40-60%, so you should use a hygrometer.
Another mistake is the simultaneous operation of the humidifier and air conditioner. The air conditioner dries the air, and the humidifier saturates it with moisture, which is why the equipment works in opposite directions. It is better to cool the room first, and then adjust the humidity if necessary.
Babayants also advises not to give up airing. When the humidifier is constantly running, moisture accumulates and settles on the surfaces, which can lead to a musty smell and dampness. It is better to ventilate the room in the evening, when the temperature outside decreases.
It is better to turn off the device at night or use the automatic humidity control mode, since it naturally increases in the evening and at night.
"Instead of the morning freshness, heavy air will be felt in the room, stickiness will appear on the skin and condensation on the surfaces. Therefore, it is better to turn off the device at night or use the automatic humidity control mode," she said.
The expert paid special attention to the care of the humidifier. If you do not flush the tank, microorganisms multiply in the stagnant water, and the device begins to spray not only moisture, but also bacteria. The remaining water should be drained daily, the tank should be rinsed, and once a week, descaling and disinfection should be carried out according to the instructions.
"Humidification in summer requires a different approach than in winter. The summer microclimate involves temperature and humidity control, reasonable use of equipment and regular ventilation. These steps will help to avoid stuffiness and dampness and maintain comfort even on the hottest days. This is important not only for well—being, but also for productive work and good rest," she concluded.
Denis Prokofiev, a general practitioner with the status of "Moscow Doctor," said on May 16 that meningitis can be primary and secondary. In the primary case, the pathogen affects only the meninges without previous infectious diseases in other organs, and the secondary one develops against the background of other diseases as a complication of the infectious process.
