French President Emmanuel Macron, despite his promises over the past years to call Russian President Vladimir Putin, has not done so. This was stated by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

"Do you remember, over the past few years, Macron has been saying all the time that 'I'll call Putin'? But I never got to the phone," he said in an interview with journalist Pavel Zarubin for the Vesti news agency.

On February 3, Macron announced that technical preparations were underway for his possible talks with Putin, while the process, according to him, was taking place in coordination with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and key European partners.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with French journalists on March 26 that Macron had from time to time stated publicly that he would definitely contact Putin, but had not done so. The head of the foreign ministry said that there had not been a single case where the Russian president had left a call from his French counterpart unanswered.
