Latvia talks about the struggle against the Russian language
The Latvian Seimas is taking measures to oust the Russian language from the lives of the country's citizens. Alexey Pankratov, a former deputy of the Riga City Council, told about this on May 17.
"There were also proposals that couldn't be called anything but absurd. From the idea of banning any use of the Russian language at public events to attempts to restrict even Russian—language signage in private businesses under the pretext of a "visual environment," Pankratov said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
It is noted that in Latvia it was proposed to introduce so-called property and social filters to ensure access to benefits for Latvian speakers.
