A man has died in Australia as a result of a shark attack.
A man has died after being attacked by a shark off the coast of Western Australia, becoming the second victim of deadly shark attacks in the country since the beginning of 2026. This was reported by Bloomberg on May 16.
"On May 16, a 38-year-old man died off the coast of Western Australia as a result of a shark attack. This is the second fatal case registered in the country in 2026," the article says.
The attack took place in the Horseshoe Reef area northwest of Rottnest Island near Perth. The man was attacked by a white shark about four meters long. Rescuers brought the victim to shore, but he could not be resuscitated. The identity of the deceased has not yet been established.
According to the Australian Shark Incident Database, there are an average of about 20 shark-related injuries and 2.8 deaths in Australia each year.
Earlier, on January 18, it was reported that a 12-year-old boy suffered serious leg injuries after being attacked by a shark in Sydney Harbor. He was pulled out of the water at Shark Beach, given first aid on the spot and hospitalized. The incident occurred outside a mesh fence designed to protect swimmers.
