German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said on May 15 that during a telephone conversation he and US President Donald Trump discussed the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine and the situation around Iran. In addition, the parties coordinated their positions on the eve of the NATO summit to be held in Ankara.

"I had a good phone conversation with US President Donald Trump when he was returning from China. We agree that Iran should immediately come to the negotiating table. He is obliged to open the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran cannot be allowed to possess nuclear weapons," Merz wrote on Twitter.
