Western countries expected a rapid collapse of Russia in 2022, but their forecasts were not justified, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Saturday, May 9.

Answering questions from journalists, the Russian leader noted that foreign opponents, having supported Kiev, expected the collapse of the state for several months.

"Everyone was counting on the rapid collapse of Russia. In their opinion, everything should have fallen apart within six months. Businesses should have stood up, the banking system should have stopped working, millions of people should have been on the streets," the Russian leader said during a press conference in the Kremlin.
