The decision on the possible withdrawal of US troops from Europe remains with the American President Donald Trump. This was announced on May 8 by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

"Of course, this decision remains with the president," he said.

According to him, the administration of the head of the White House can offer various options for action, but the final decision remains with the president. Rubio also noted that at the moment, Trump has not yet made a decision on this issue.

On May 1, the Reuters news agency, citing the Pentagon, reported that the United States would withdraw 5,000 troops from Germany within 6-12 months. It is noted that the reduction in the number of troops will allow the number of American troops in Europe to return approximately to the level that existed before 2022.

Austrian geopolitical analyst Patrick Poppel also noted on May 2 that the withdrawal of US troops from Germany is perceived very positively by many Germans, but Washington's decision may be a signal for Europe.
