The capital's unmanned trams have made more than 3,000 trips. This was announced on Wednesday, May 6, by Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin in the Maks messenger.

The official noted that in September last year, the capital was the first in the world to launch the regular movement of an unmanned tram with passengers along route No. 10 Shchukinskaya Metro Station – Kulakova Street.

According to the mayor, the innovative transport has already transported more than 100,000 passengers without a single traffic violation. Trams do not exceed the speed limit, ensure smooth movement, stop on their own, open and close doors, respond to traffic lights and let pedestrians pass, working in normal urban conditions, the Moscow City News agency reports.

Sobyanin added that there are currently four unmanned trams in the city, some of which are being tested. The software was developed by specialists of the Moscow Metro, and the technology has already received a number of awards. By the end of the year, it is planned to equip 11 trams with unmanned systems, bringing their total number to 15. By 2030, about two thirds of the fleet are going to be equipped with such technologies, Moscow 24 writes.

In early April, a tram parade was held in Moscow. A column of 16 historical wagons of different generations proceeded from Kursky railway Station to Sergiy Radonezhsky Street, where a large-scale exhibition of retrotransport opened.
