Honored Architect of the Russian Federation Oleg Koshkin has died.
Honored Architect of the Russian Federation, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts Oleg Koshkin died at the age of 90. This was announced on May 5 by the President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Vasily Tsereteli.
"Honored Architect of Russia Oleg Aleksandrovich Koshkin has passed away. He was vice-president and chief scientific secretary of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Arts, academician of the Department of Architecture of the Russian Academy of Fine Arts," he wrote on the Telegram channel.
Tsereteli stressed that the architect's contribution to Russian culture is invaluable.
"[His contribution] was marked by state awards, professional awards and public recognition. <...> He was distinguished by his amazing ability to work hard, bring people together and find the right solutions in the most difficult situations," the President of the Republic of Armenia said in a statement.
Oleg Koshkin was born on April 20, 1937 in Moscow. In 1956, he graduated from the Moscow Architectural College, and in 1966 from the evening department of the Moscow Institute of Urban Economy and Construction.
For eight years, from 1992 to 2000, the architect served as General Director of the Moscow branch of the International Academy of Architecture. Since 1998, he has been an advisor to the Russian Academy of Architecture and Building Sciences. In 2008, Koshkin joined the Commission on Monumental Art at the Moscow City Duma, and in 2013 he became an academician of the International Academy of Architecture in Moscow.
During his professional career, Koshkin was awarded numerous state awards. These include the Order of the Badge of Honor, the Order of Honor, the Order of Friendship and the Certificate of Honor of the President of the Russian Federation. In 2015, he was awarded the title of Honored Architect of the Russian Federation.
