Military personnel of the Center group of forces have restored the military graves of the Red Army heroes who died defending the country during the Great Patriotic War (WWII) on the territory of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR). This was announced on May 5 by the Russian Defense Ministry.

"We made a trip with the head of the administration to the places of military glory of our fathers and grandfathers. We have taken several monuments for our own restoration and care, not only mass graves, but also individual monuments where our heroes died," said Vyacheslav Bodnya, Deputy commander of the battalion for military and political work.

The restoration work was carried out by soldiers of the 8th separate battalion of unmanned systems of the 2nd Guards Combined Arms Army of this group. They have renovated the graves of soldiers who participated in the Miuska offensive operation in Donbas.

The burial and mass grave of the Red Army soldiers were found in a field among bushes. They were discovered by local residents along with the military. Commemorative memorials were erected exactly where fierce battles took place during the Great Patriotic War during the Mius offensive operation for the liberation of Donbass from Nazi troops.

The military personnel of the unmanned systems units (UAVs) of the Center group, on their own initiative, began to restore and beautify these graves. They cleared the territory, put the paths in order and updated the color of the memorials.

Such work is also underway in other liberated settlements both in the rear and near the line of operations. The military is restoring monuments from the time of the war, preserving the memory of the heroic deeds of Soviet soldiers.

On May 1, the Center for Modern History reported that two missing Soviet pilots, Sergei Kovalchuk and Fyodor Goncharov, were found and identified by search engines in the swamps of the Novgorod region. According to the fragments of the wing spars and the armored elements of the fuselage, experts first determined that it was an Il-2 attack aircraft.
