- The Russian ambassador declared a strategic threat due to the strengthening of Europe's "nuclear umbrella".
Any initiatives to strengthen the European "nuclear umbrella" are seen as a direct strategic threat to Russia. This statement was made on May 4 by Russian Ambassador to Berlin Sergey Nechaev.
"Any plans to strengthen the European "nuclear umbrella" require careful consideration in Russian military and political planning, as they pose a direct threat to our country's strategic order," RIA Novosti quoted the diplomat as saying.
This is how he answered the question of Moscow's reaction to Berlin's participation in such exercises.
Russian Ambassador to France Alexei Meshkov said on May 3 that discussions on expanding nuclear capabilities in Europe could weaken the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), which was adopted during the Cold War after the Cuban Missile crisis. He stressed that the document was the result of joint efforts by several countries and was aimed at preventing nuclear proliferation.
