Representatives of the European Union (EU) countries, who rejected the plan to accelerate Ukraine's admission to the alliance, plan to offer it a reduced integration instead. This was reported by Politico on Thursday, April 30, citing four diplomats.

According to them, the new draft was prepared a month ago. Then European leaders began to consider potential reforms that would allow Kiev to gradually join the EU. In parallel, Ukraine was required to carry out the work and transformations necessary for a full-fledged entry.

"The new proposal will include broader market access and deeper participation in EU programs and institutions," the article says.

The model, developed largely with the support of Germany and France, was called "accelerated gradual integration." In addition, the Ukrainian side may be offered to become the owner of the status of an "acceding state." She, in turn, demands "specifics" from Western allies and increased economic support.

On April 24, Politico, commenting on the €90 billion loan provided to Kiev by the EU countries, pointed to the fading triumph of this step recorded in the alliance. The publication stated that there is a split in the association, whose members find it difficult to negotiate with each other. At the same time, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz called Ukraine's accelerated accession to the EU impossible.

Bloomberg news agency added on April 29 that the member states intended to tighten the conditions for providing Ukraine with approved financial assistance. It was explained that a number of payments included in the support package may be indexed due to tax changes.
