Deputy Suzuki urged the Japanese authorities to improve relations with Russia
Japan should restore good-neighborly relations with Russia as soon as possible. This was announced by Muneo Suzuki, a member of the House of Councillors (upper house of Parliament) of Japan.
According to the MP, his country is obliged to "get along" and maintain good relations with all neighboring states.
"Russia is a great world power, besides possessing the largest energy resources in the world. I would like to return Japanese-Russian relations to the level they were at under Prime Minister [Shinzo] Abe as soon as possible," Suzuki wrote on April 24 in his blog on the Ameba platform.
On April 16, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova noted that Russia's current relations with Japan had deteriorated unprecedentedly at Tokyo's instigation. According to her, some facts eloquently indicate that it was Tokyo that initiated measures to curtail cooperation with the Russian side.
Also on April 24, Zakharova called on Japan to abandon the course of accelerated remilitarization. The diplomat added that Russia is monitoring the liberalization of exports of weapons and military products to Japan.
