Romania has officially approved a law aimed at combating "femicide", which introduces this concept into the country's legislation for the first time and provides for punishment up to life imprisonment. This was announced by Romanian President Nicusor Dan.

"This law turns the Romanian state's obligation to guarantee the safety of women and children into a specific prevention mechanism, providing the authorities with the necessary tools to intervene in a timely manner before violence escalates into a tragedy," the Romanian president's Facebook page (owned by Meta, a company whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation) said on April 25.

He also noted that this is a particularly important step towards raising awareness of the causes of violence against women, as well as creating a more effective and humane justice system that not only severely punishes aggressors, but also understands and actively prevents the suffering of the most vulnerable segments of the population.

According to the Romanian radio station Europa.fm On average, three women die every month at the hands of relatives in the country.

The Guardian newspaper reported that an increase in cases of violence against women has been recorded in Norway. According to experts, staff at women's health centers have noted an increase in the number of women seeking help and advice after experiencing violence.
