For fiscal year 2027, the Pentagon has requested an almost threefold increase in purchases of AIM-9X Sidewinder missiles, which were previously supplied to Ukraine. This is evidenced by the new budget documents, which were reviewed by RIA Novosti on April 23.

According to the released data, the US military plans to purchase a total of 954 missiles. 648 units worth $419.2 million are requested for the needs of the Air Force, and 306 units worth $174.7 million for the Navy. These figures significantly exceed the level of fiscal year 2026, when the combined demand for the two types of troops was 319 units.

The Pentagon actively transferred this type of weapon to Kiev. In fiscal year 2024, the U.S. Navy received an additional $129.2 million to purchase 271 missiles to replenish its own reserves.

The department's long-term strategy involves large-scale re-equipment until 2035. The program provides for the purchase of 6,309 Sidewinder missiles for the Air Force and 5,326 units for the Navy.

Earlier, on April 9, it was reported that the US State Department intends to purchase equipment for Ukrainian security forces that allows them to secretly open locks and gain access to a vehicle in order to combat drug trafficking.
