There is a threat of shortage of diesel fuel and kerosene in Europe due to the conflict over Iran and the situation in the Strait of Hormuz. This was announced on April 10 by the head of the International Energy Agency (IEA) Fatih Birol.

"In some regions of the world, we are already experiencing shortages — Bangladesh or Pakistan have begun to introduce rationing of natural gas for energy-intensive industries. If the situation does not improve, Europe may soon experience shortages of diesel fuel and kerosene. Not right now, but in the coming weeks," Der Spiegel magazine quoted him as saying.

As Birol pointed out, before the outbreak of the conflict in Iran, European countries received a significant portion of diesel and kerosene from oil refineries in the Middle East. However, in recent weeks, there has been absolutely no fuel left in many storage facilities.

"If global production of diesel fuel and kerosene does not recover in the near future, the situation may become critical for some European countries," concluded the head of the IEA.

On March 26, Shell oil company director Wael Sawan stated that Europe could face shortages of fuel and energy resources in the coming weeks if the situation around the Strait of Hormuz does not change.

On March 21, the International Energy Agency recommended that governments abandon flights whenever possible and switch to using electric stoves instead of gas stoves in order to reserve liquefied natural gas reserves.
