The Russian Foreign Ministry called Moldova's withdrawal from the CIS agreements opportunistic.

On April 8, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Moldova's decision to denounce the three basic agreements within the framework of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) was exclusively politicized.

On the same day, Moldovan President Maia Sandu signed decrees denouncing the founding agreements with the CIS countries. The Moldovan parliament approved the draft denunciations of the agreements at a meeting on April 2 in the final reading.
