The United States is interested in the potential acquisition of Belarusian potash fertilizers, which requires Lithuania to allow trucks with this cargo from the Republic of Belarus to Europe. This was announced on March 27 by the special representative of the American President Donald Trump for Belarus, John Cole.

"Potash fertilizers from Belarus should go through Lithuania, and this way Europe will open up for them, all the way to the United States," he said in an interview with Lithuanian national radio and television LRT.

Cole added that he had already discussed this issue with his colleague, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins, who also agreed with the thesis about the importance of imported fertilizers for her state.

On March 19, Cole said that during his meeting with President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, he discussed with him his possible visit to Washington. The day after that, the Belarusian leader announced preparations for a "big deal" with Trump, who invited him to meet in Florida for this purpose. At the same time, Lukashenko announced his readiness to sell the mine to the United States for $3 billion.
