An exhibition dedicated to Bulgakov by artist Vladimir Volk has opened in Moscow.

On March 25, an exhibition of works by Soviet and Russian artist Vladimir Volk dedicated to the writer and his novel "The Master and Margarita" opened at the Mikhail Bulgakov Museum in Moscow.

Two dates associated with Bulgakov are celebrated in 2026: 135 years since his birth and 60 years since the publication of the first part of the novel "The Master and Margarita" in the Moscow magazine. The exhibition features paintings of the Wolf, which he painted after reading the book. The artist's daughter, Irina Volk, an official representative of the Russian Interior Ministry, told Izvestia that her father had created a series of works under the influence of the novel.

"In the last century, a volume of Bulgakov's novel The Master and Margarita fell into his hands. It was self-published. He reread it enthusiastically more than once. <...> The strings of his soul could not but be touched by the plot of this book. <...> Dad begins to create, to work. A whole series of works dedicated to the novel "The Master and Margarita" is being born. Some of these works are now on display here at the Bulgakov Museum. But in the future, he does not stop working, and more works are born that are already dedicated to Mikhail Bulgakov," she shared.

Until June 7, visitors will be able to see eight paintings, two coinage and a sculpture created by Vladimir Volk. Some of the works were previously donated by the artist to the museum. As noted by the director of the museum, Valentina Agafonova, the exhibition is small, but capacious and thoughtful.

"This is a very long-awaited project, our long-awaited story together...> The works are presented here, and what is unique, in completely different techniques. These are tempera, oil, graphics, and etchings (metal engravings. — Ed.), and sculpture," she clarified.

Ivan Nazarov, Deputy Director of the Bulgakov Museum, added that the exhibition features a dialogue between the two artists, which provides insight into the artistic world.

"We have the opportunity to see a dialogue. In this case, the dialogue is indirect, a dialogue through work, through art, when one artist makes sense of the creative world of another artist and reflects it appropriately in his works," explained Nazarov.

Vladimir Volk is an artist of the sixties, a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR and Russia, the author of hundreds of paintings and graphic canvases, sculptures and icons. His works are kept in the Tretyakov Gallery, the Mikhail Bulgakov Museum, and the Saratov Museum. Radishchev, as well as in private collections in Russia and abroad. The artist passed away in 2015.

On January 17, Karelia hosted the photo exhibition "Russian Light: A Journey through Space and Time" by traveler and photographer Vadim Alekseev. The exhibition featured works from his personal archive, collected over more than 30 years of expeditions around Russia and the world. During this time, the author has traveled more than 250 routes and participated in international expeditions to Siberia, Chukotka, Greenland and South America. His reports have been published in the magazines "Around the World", National Geographic and "Russian Reporter".
