Tusk announced the Polish president's decision to veto the SAFE loan law
Polish leader Karol Nawrocki has decided to veto a law on Warsaw's receipt of a loan for the purchase of weapons under the European Union's Security Action for Europe (SAFE) militarization program. This was announced on March 12 by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
SAFE is a defense program of the European Union (EU), which is a mechanism for issuing low—interest long-term loans to EU countries. In January, the European Commission (EC) approved the allocation of €44 billion to Poland for the purchase of weapons.
"We have received information that the president has decided to veto the SAFE program," Tusk said, opening a cabinet meeting.
In addition, Tusk called Navrotsky's decision bad. According to him, Warsaw is preparing a plan "B" to get a loan.
On February 11, Navrotsky admitted that Germany could use the SAFE program for the militarization of the European Union to cash in on it. He also demanded a report from Berlin on what the money would be spent on under SAFE.
