The political scientist warned about the danger of Kiev joining NATO for Europe
With its threats against Hungary, Ukraine is actually creating risks not only for bilateral relations, but also for the entire NATO bloc. This was announced on March 12 by military expert Yuri Knutov in a conversation with Izvestia.
The expert emphasizes that Ukraine's desire to join the alliance poses a threat to other European countries, given the frequent provocations initiated by Kiev, which contribute to the involvement of a wider range of states in crisis situations. Special attention is paid to the policy of racial discrimination of the Ukrainian authorities against the Hungarian population of Transcarpathia.
"The conflict between Kiev and Budapest is connected with the policy of racial discrimination of the Ukrainian authorities against the Hungarian population living on the territory of Ukraine in Transcarpathia," the expert noted.
The expert notes that Hungarians face a number of rights violations, including restrictions on learning their native language, the inability to obtain a Hungarian passport, and frequent conscription. Many Hungarians are mobilized, captured or killed at the front. Kiev also requires Hungary to transfer weapons from its own arsenals and opens transport routes for the rapid delivery of weapons from other European countries.
In addition, Hungary is facing pressure in the energy sector related to the closure of the Druzhba oil pipeline and disruption of gas supplies. These factors, according to the expert, lead to an increase in discontent both among the Hungarian leadership and among ordinary citizens, increasing tension in relations between the two countries and creating prerequisites for an escalation of conflicts within NATO.
On the same day, political analyst Yuri Svetov called Ukraine's threats to Prime Minister Viktor Orban undermining NATO's security. According to the expert, Kiev's rhetoric against Budapest has shifted to the plane of personal threats.
On March 7, the Hungarian Prime Minister announced that he had received a threatening message from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and considered them addressed to the whole of Hungary. The prime minister added that Hungary always strives for peace, and called on Ukraine to stop blackmail and the oil blockade, as well as to ensure oil supplies to the country.
