Hero of Russia Artemyev revealed the reasons for banning tattoos for astronauts
On March 12, Hero of Russia, cosmonaut Oleg Artemyev explained the requirements for the absence of tattoos among members of space crews.
"Such orders came from the Soviet government back then. In the USSR, doctors were convinced that a normal person would not get a tattoo. This applied more to people who were serving prison sentences," Artemyev said in an interview with RT.
The cosmonaut stressed that there is still a belief in the domestic industry that a person in "full adequacy" will not put drawings on the body. He added that such strict rules are specific to Russian cosmonautics, and he suggested that fans of body drawings try their hand at astronaut training.
The head of the organization, Dmitry Bakanov, said that on March 10, Roscosmos announced the withdrawal of the ISS from Earth orbit from 2028. According to him, Russia is working closely with the United States on the ISS issue.
