Cardiologist warned against self-medication for hypertension
Uncontrolled intake of medications that reduce blood pressure can lead to serious health problems, Denis Prokofiev, a general practitioner, cardiologist, and holder of the Moscow Doctor status, warned in an interview with Izvestia.
"The groups of drugs differ not only in the strength of their effects. For example, pills that are prescribed in a course and taken systematically are not suitable for a single dose," the doctor clarified.
He noted that it is also important to take into account the dosage of medicines during treatment.
"The drug can trigger an ischemic stroke only because a certain dosage is too high for a particular person. The pressure quickly decreases to critical levels, which leads to a stroke," the specialist explained.
Such situations are common, Prokofiev stressed. In order to avoid problems, it is necessary to consult with doctors.
