- The Russian Media Group has implemented AI for transparent and accurate payments of royalties to authors
The Russian Media Group was the first among large holdings to introduce a fully automated reporting system to the Russian Copyright Society (RAO). The solution based on the SonicScout PRO service uses artificial intelligence to analyze music, speech, and broadcast design in real time, eliminating the risk of errors. The system ensures accurate accounting of works and transparency of calculations so that each author receives the due remuneration.
The introduction of an AI solution has become an important step in caring for content creators. The Russian Media Group consistently builds processes aimed at protecting intellectual property and implements digital tools for the correct and timely transmission of data to copyright holders. Using the SonicScout PRO service, created with the participation of RAO, allows media companies to automate their work with the air, and for composers and performers to be sure that their work will be taken into account when paying royalties. Honest and mutually beneficial cooperation with the authors is a priority for the holding, Dmitry Mednikov, Managing Director of the Russian Media Group, emphasized.:
"In recent years, the Russian Media Group has been systematically implementing a digitalization strategy. The development of online broadcasting stations, audience analytics using artificial intelligence, and the use of AI to create content are steps that transform traditional media into modern multi—format media. The introduction of SonicScout PRO is a logical continuation of this policy. This is a great opportunity to significantly optimize the processes in the field of intellectual property protection, which RMG has always been extremely scrupulous about. Together with our strategic partner, the Russian Copyright Society, we are making the music industry more technologically advanced and transparent."
The integration of the service with RMG systems is carried out in cooperation with RAO. The joint work is aimed at improving the efficiency and quality of reporting, as well as at creating common standards for interaction between media companies and copyright holders. This partnership is an important stage in the development of relations between the Russian media industry and the intellectual property sector, said Alexey Karelov, Executive Director of the Russian Copyright Society.:
"Historically, Russia has been a legislator and a pioneer of many processes in the field of digital transformation of intellectual property. And RMG is also at the forefront of these processes. It is gratifying to realize that it was the Russian media holding that was the first to present to the world the unique experience of full digitalization of relations with copyright holders."
Alexey Karelov also noted the technological capabilities of SonicScout PRO. According to him, the AI solution, developed with the participation of key Russian collective rights management organizations — RAO, WIPO and RSP — specifically for the media industry and working with more than 205 million digital prints, allows analyzing large amounts of audio information, generating reports in a simple and understandable form.
As Valeria Brusnikina, Deputy General Director of the NCC OTIS Research and Development Laboratory, emphasized, the service was created at the request of the media industry.:
"The Laboratory is a leading provider of digital innovations for the field of intellectual property. For many years, we have been working with payouts and key stakeholders in the creative industries market. SonicScout PRO is a full—fledged analytical platform for the media market. The system records every broadcast event, provides analytical data on programs, advertising blocks, and musical compositions, allows you to monitor compliance with the media plan, and generates ratings and charts for artists and rotations."
RMG and RAO are confident that the service will help not only meet reporting requirements, but also improve the effectiveness of management decisions based on objective and transparent data.
