- At least 13 people were killed when a building collapsed after an explosion in southern Pakistan.
At least 13 people, including women and children, were killed in a gas cylinder explosion that caused the collapse of an apartment building in the city of Karachi in southern Pakistan. This was reported on February 19 by the Reuters news agency, citing representatives of regional law enforcement agencies.
"The balloon exploded on the first floor of a multi-storey complex in Soldier Bazaar, a residential area in the eastern part of the city. <...> Among the dead were seven children, including a two—year-old child," the publication says.
It is emphasized that rescuers have recovered dozens of victims from the rubble, but there may still be people under the rubble. The city police said that the causes of the explosion are being investigated.
The Associated Press reported a day earlier that five people were injured in an explosion at a church in New York State. This number, as specified, also included the pastor and firefighters who arrived at the scene after reporting the smell of gas in the building. Police officials said at the time that no initial signs of criminal activity related to the explosion had been found.
