The weather forecaster warned of snowstorms and drifts in the capital region on February 19.

Heavy snowfall and snowstorms are expected in the capital region on February 19, and the height of the snow cover may increase by about 10 cm per day. This was reported to Izvestia by Tatiana Pozdnyakova, a leading specialist at the Meteonosti news agency.

"We are in the zone of the active atmospheric front of the southern cyclone, so heavy snow is forecast for almost the whole day today. Snowstorms and snowdrifts are also expected. 7-15 mm of precipitation may fall during the day, and the height of the snow cover will increase by about 10 cm by the morning of February 20," she said.

According to Pozdnyakova, on the night of February 20, the snow will begin to weaken, as the cyclone will shift to the northwest. Precipitation will continue, however, without the category of heavy, while drifts on the roads will remain. Additionally, another 2-4 mm of precipitation may fall overnight.

Light snow will occasionally fall in the following days, and no significant precipitation is expected on February 22. Then, on February 23-24, the weather will be determined by the next cyclone of Atlantic origin, which will bring less precipitation, but will increase the air temperature, the expert added.

According to Pozdnyakova, in the coming days the average daily temperature will be below the climatic norm by about 5 degrees. By the middle of next week, the indicators will approach normal, which will allow us to feel a gradual warming and the approach of spring.
