Russia and the United States have agreed to create an economic working group to discuss mutual economic interests, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on February 18 in an interview with Al Arabiya TV channel, which was published on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"In addition to negotiations on military and political issues, which are taking place in Geneva in an expanded format, we have agreed with our American colleagues to establish a bilateral economic working group. We will discuss all these issues within this group. We want to understand what mutual benefits are in the view of the administration of [US President] Donald Trump," he said.

Lavrov stressed that the parties intend to be guided by a pragmatic approach and common sense, recognizing each other's national interests.

On February 17, it was reported that Lavrov discussed strengthening strategic partnership with the ambassadors of the BRICS member and partner countries accredited in Moscow. He noted that the intention was expressed to raise the international profile of the BRICS, to increase the coordination of its participants on key multilateral platforms.
