Martin, a resident of Geneva, went on a solo picket on February 18 during negotiations on the Ukrainian settlement. In a conversation with Izvestia correspondent Igor Baldin, the man explained that the card was related to his long-ago trip to Russia.

"More than 20 years ago I was in Russia. <...> It is a beautiful country. Nice people. And there I found a book with this map," he stressed.

Martin turned out to be the only protester with a map of Russia in front of the InterContinental Hotel, where negotiations between Moscow, Washington and Kiev were taking place.

Vladimir Medinsky, an aide to Russian President Vladimir Putin and head of the Russian delegation, announced on the same day that a new round of negotiations on resolving the conflict in Ukraine would take place in the near future.

The third round of negotiations between Russia, the United States and Ukraine ended on the same day. As on the previous day, the meeting was held behind closed doors. The head of the Russian delegation called the negotiations between the Russian, American and Ukrainian sides difficult, but businesslike.
